The Week That Was 21st September 2018
It has been a fabulous week here at St Mary’s. We have been in all of the lessons throughout the school and some of the work, which children have been producing, has been amazing. Well done to Paula-Marie in year 3 who has produced the most amazing handwriting in just under a week!! Awesome progress!! We have continued to share our talents in assembly and across the school and I wonder can you guess which member of staff wrote our school poem?
On Wednesday we welcomed our new school chaplain Rose Darwin who gave a wonderful assembly all about buttons. We look forward to her next visit.
On Thursday we welcomed M & M theatre company who gave a wonderful performance of Charlotte’s web. It was lovely to hear a child in passing “ I wish we had assembly’s like that every day” We were hoping they will return with their Christmas production, Robin Hood in December
Thank you for the excellent start to our school day. Children are arriving quickly and settling in for their day really well. Teachers have started to send home homework tasks. Just a reminder all children should be encouraged to read at home each evening. There are lots of different ways to read with your child, you could read a page, they could read a page. You could read a sentence, they could read a sentence. There are even questions in the back of their reading books which you can quiz the children on the contents of the story, For children who are not yet reading ask them to sound out simple words/talk about pictures, guess what the story might be about or what might happen next? Children in KS1 are working really hard every morning to learn their phonics. Thank you to all of you who have been continuing their learning at home. Watch out for our phonics information session for parents of children in year 1 who will take the phonics screening later this academic year and for those of year 2 who need to retake the screening test.
Have a great weekend!
