Extended Schools Provision & Other Services

“Visits and visitors provide good enrichment opportunities.”

Ofsted Inspection 2013

The school is committed to involving its pupils and their families in experiences both within and beyond the curriculum that enhance their learning. This includes educational visits, which are sometimes residential, and bringing visitors into the school.

Pupils' enjoyment of school is enhanced by a range of activities beyond day-to-day lessons which broaden their life experiences.

We also reach out to both the local and global community by being involved in fund-raising and other initiatives which raise awareness of the needs of others and help to support those who are facing difficulties.

School Clubs

St. Mary’s provides before and after school as well as lunchtime clubs. These vary from term to term, sometimes depending on interest level, and have included choir, art and craft, dance, debating, gardening, recorders, sailing and sports such as rugby, football, basketball and cross country.

Clubs may have key stage, year group or number restrictions. Sometimes it is necessary for us to charge for clubs and activities provided out of school hours.

Activity Camp

We also hold an annual two-day non-curriculum event in school where pupils and staff work together in an informal setting and have the opportunity to try a wide variety of activities and experiences such as archery, circus skills, climbing, dance, fencing, go-karting, arts and crafts and orienteering.

Parents Classes

Our Family Support Worker organises classes for parents in conjunction with the Adult Learning Team. Classes have included cookery, first aid, basic literacy and numeracy and computer studies.

St Mary’s Out of School Club (SMOOSC)

SMOOSC operates at our school and offers a wide range of activities for children aged from 4 years upwards. The Club aims to provide supervised childcare in a safe and friendly environment. Session times are 7.30—8.45 a.m. for the Breakfast Club and 3.15—6.00 p.m. for the After School Club. SMOOSC operates independently of the school. If you would like more information about the activities it provides please contact the school office for further details.

External Agencies

The School works with a number of agencies and external organisations to bring additional expertise to enhancing and enriching our curriculum, and support our children and staff in their personal and academic development.

“The school recognises the need to invite and engage its wider community and evidences focused energy in extending and expanding its influence and involvement.”
